August 29 - MTF rider Kyle Peters recently began training for the Australian Supercross series set to begin October 16. We asked him if he would post a weekly diary to keep us up to date with his training and racing. Kyle agreed and we’ll be posting his messages on Facebook and our website over the next 15 weeks.

In it's third year, the Australian SX series has expanded to include two events in New Zealand and one in Tasmania. Chad Reed will be the big draw in the Open class and several big name riders from the US will be heading down under to battle it out in front of the home crowd favorite.

The Lites class, in which Kyle will compete, will be no less competitive and we know that the Australians will be rooting for their riders.

For Kyle it will be a return trip to Australia as he raced the Australian junior championships in 2009, winning the U.17 250 class title. Traveling with his Dad and a mechanic Kyle will switch to Suzuki for the series as he will race on a Suzuki SX team.

Kyle writes:

OK well I started training on Monday and it was weird to be back on the bike so soon after Loretta’s because usually this is a break time. When I first got on the SX track at MTF I got to say I was terrible. It felt really bad and my timing was off and my breathing was horrible.

Colleen has been helping me and it is better now after I guess five days but I have a long way to go. We worked on whoops a lot and I am getting more comfortable every time. No crashes yet but it is hot out there and physically it is very different to be ready for supercross.

Clint has been training me all week and I have been doing some heavy lifting because
he says I need more strength for the shorter SX races they have down there. Oh and the bike rides have been hard too.

So I guess it was a good first week. My best lap time was a 58 which is slow but I want to get it down to 54 before I leave in October. I think that will be good.

I’m real excited to be going back to Australia and I hope I can do good down there. Winning will be tough so I think top 5 would be a great goal but I will give it my best shot and see what happens.
